Discography
As part of my Final Project at BIMM University, I explored New Materialist approaches to creative practice through a 15-minute audiovisual composition. The project investigated how sound, physical materials and visual systems can interact to produce outcomes that extend beyond direct authorial control, drawing on ideas of material agency, emergence and generative practice.
The work combined electroacoustic composition, generative sound systems and experimental visual processes, using materials including oil, milk, acrylic paint and wine alongside macro cinematography. A transducer created a direct physical relationship between sound and material, allowing sonic vibration to influence the movement and behaviour of the visual system in real time. Rather than treating sound and image as separate elements, the project explored them as interconnected components within a shared system, using experimentation and iterative processes to investigate the relationship between authorship, control and material behaviour.

Jane Bennett’s New Materialist approach proposes that matter is not simply passive or inert, but possesses its own agency and creative tendencies, actively contributing to outcomes through its properties and interactions. Rather than treating materials as objects controlled entirely by a creator, Bennett considers them active participants within creative processes.
This project explores related themes through an experimental liquid-based visualiser, using physical materials, macro cinematography and a heat pad to create slow, evolving formations. Materials including mica powder and vegetable oil were allowed to produce movement through their own physical behaviour, with temperature differences within the mixture generating gradual and unpredictable changes. The project therefore began to explore how creative outcomes can emerge through interaction with physical materials, rather than being entirely predetermined by the artist. Developed prior to my Final Project at BIMM University, this work provided a foundation for my later exploration of emergence, material agency and reduced authorial control, extending these ideas from physical materials into both sonic and audiovisual systems.
